VIPI is a company active in the extrusion and cold pressing of lead and tin and their alloys, mainly in the ballistics sector, the coating of electric cables and optical fibres, fishing industry equipment, galvanics, construction and the engineering and electronics sectors such as Nuclear.

Our impressive experience in cold extrusion enables us to produce lead sheathed cables and optical fibres of any length, with no thermal or mechanical stress on the cable during the process. The main characteristics of the lead sheath are as follows:

• Resistant to aggressive substances (acids, alkalis, mineral oils and solvents) and oxidation
• Good protection against rodents

• Can be applied on unlimited lengths with no joints
• The lead sheath is applied at temperatures which do not damage even the most sensitive cables such as optic fibres, or the underlying layers of paper or plastic
• Can be applied to a vast range of cable thicknesses and diameters
• Precise control of cable compression prevents mechanical stresses or excessive pressure
• The lead sheath is flexible and withstands the final stages of cable production, and installation, with no difficulty.
• The lead sheath is easily welded even at low temperature when cables have to be joined or a new cable has to be installed.

Cold extrusion and moulding:

• Allow better cohesion of the material and correct distribution of the metal’s fibres, giving the lead alloy more strength and uniformity than in conventional melting systems, where foreign bodies may be included in the material or shrinkage may occur during cooling.
• Are environment-friendly, since they eliminate all pollutant atmospheric emissions and effluents and drastically reduce waste production and electricity consumption.

All our equipment is internally designed with the aid of CAD programs and produced on numerically controlled machines. The precision use of alloys, heat treatments and coatings on our equipment allows unbeatable dimensional accuracy and constant quality over time. All the alloys used are certified compliant with the UNI standards requested by the customer.

Our raw material procurement policy means we only use certified material, and no recycled or scrap metals, since any contaminating metals may affect the piece’s mechanical characteristics, making it too brittle or causing differences in chemical composition between points in the same piece.

As well as cable coatings, Lead Extrusion also supplies all the usual extruded products such as wires, tubes, plates, sheets and anodes, even with complex profiles.
